Noise Central Festival @ Summer Darkness 2009

SUMMER DARKNESS PRESENTS:
NOISE CENTRAL FESTIVAL SATURDAY
Lovers of experimental sounds, neofolk, ambient, industrial and stiff noise were in for a good time last year on Summer Darkness, two nights under the wings of Noise Central Festival and a day later under those of the Industrial Night. This year Summer Darkness has gathered much beauty on the festival’s Saturday, resulting in eighteen hours of music by eleven bands in one long, continuous flow of atmospheres, moods and splendour, all for the price of one day-ticket!
The Noise Central Festival Saturday already starts around noon in SJU. Here, the German Spherical Disrupted and Utrecht-based The [Law-Rah] Collective will bring cutting-edge (dark) ambient, experimental beats and drones in a fine and intimate setting. Immediately afterwards follows an impressive and extended neofolk programme in EKKO on the X-Rated stage with, in order of appearance, :Golgatha:, Triarii and Dernière Volonté. The pure death-industrial celebrity Brighter Death Now will be the closing act on the X-Rated stage. Then the Noise Central Festival Saturday continues in Tivoli de Helling where the well-known Industrial Night will thunder until the very early hours! Just leave this to the five top-acts from Ant-Zen - and Hands fame: Nullvektor, S.K.E.T., Klangstabil, MS Gentur and to top it all: 5F-X!
In short: thé radio programme for experimental music, thé festival for noise, drones, industrial and more, thé Utrecht venue for improvisation and experiment ánd the well-known Industrial Night join forces for eighteen hours of music by eleven bands on the Noise Central Festival Saturday of Summer Darkness 2009.

Spherical Disrupted is the current main musical project of Mirko Hentrich. Hentrich has produced electronic and experimental music since 1988 under various names and with various bands (e.g. Experimentum Crucis and Sick En For). As Spherical Disrupted Hentrich has made several releases since 1995 (on Audiophob since 2004) and has done remixes for P•A•L, Xabec, KiEw and Zero Degree.
The mesmerizing ambient and experimental electronics project Spherical Disrupted played live all over Germany and Europe, including at some bigger festivals like Maschinenfest, Elektroanschlag, Schlagstrom festival and now for the first time at Summer Darkness.
The sound of Spherical Disrupted may be described as a mixture between dark ambient and IDM including electronics, metal percussion and field recordings, with a dash of industrial’s chill. Mirko Hentrich is also co-founder and owner of the ambient industrial label audiophob and is working under the name of Paradroid as a DJ for EBM and ambient music in several clubs and at many festivals. Spherical Disrupted is set to play a show of ambient and electronics at the intimate and perfectly suited SJU venue early in the Saturday afternoon, so set your alarm clock and make sure you get there in time to chill out and relax to these mellow and incisive ambient sounds and moods.
The [Law-Rah] Collective

THE [LAW-RAH] COLLECTIVE [NL]
*drones, dark ambient, IDM, experimental electronics*

Working from the emotional perspective, Bauke van der Wal - under the name the [law-rah] collective - started experimenting with analogue equipment. Since the start the Collective has taken on different shapes and styles. Ranging from thickly layered drones, ambient noise and frequency manipulation to IDM-ish beats and melancholic ambient moods, the [law-rah] collective has released albums on Pflichtkauf, Force of Nature, Spectre and the most well-known: Ant-Zen.
One of the true catalogue high lights is ‘1953’ narrating the disastrous flooding of the south-west of Holland. Recited by Hiekelien van den Herik, the one hour long story about a little girl who lives through and experiences this traumatic chain of events and the aftermath, is sure to send chills down anyone’s spine.
On ‘..as it is..’ Van der Wal once again teams up with Van den Herik for another chilling foray into the imaginative force of music as a soundtrack for the film the listeners themselves direct. The last offering: ‘Inspiration’ (on Ant-Zen) is often described as the most accessible. This stunning co-production with Martijn Pieck offers impressive immersive depth in texture and soundscapes and even pulsating beats and IDM-glitches. The Collective is currently working on new material which might very well be included in this performance. Last year at Noise Central Festival the [law-rah] collective and SJU’s impressive PA-system proved to be a match made in heaven. Sub-basses, extreme frequency twists and turns and crystal clear melodies flowed perfectly. You just never know what to expect next from the [law-rah] collective, apart from a truly expert level of drones, dark ambient and experimental electronics! Now back at Summer Darkness for another surprising set: the [law-rah] collective.

Named after the common name of the site where the Christian prophet Jesus was crucified, :Golgatha: started out in 2004 as a one-man sound-art project. With the addition of S. Marleni the band changed its sound from pure neofolk to dark ambient with ritual touches. At the core lies the ideological and religious conflict between east and west, the music of :Golgatha: being the careful reflection of this seemingly eternal conflict on a mythical as well as on a concrete level. Yet :Golgatha: doesn’t take either side. There has to be another way of dealing with humanities darkest aspects.

Through the years :Golgatha: has collaborated with quite number of well-known artists like Tony Wakeford, Herbst9 and Patrick Leagas (D**th In June). In 2008 the band released the impressive ‘Sang Graal’ concept album on Cold Meat Industry, produced in co-operation with the French band Dawn and Dusk Entwined. This year’s ‘Cycles’ marks yet another high for this highly productive act. :Golgatha: may present a somehow pessimistic vision du monde but does not support intolerant, reactionary, totalitarian or militaristic opinions. “We are searching for a balanced view, therefore always the whole picture should be considered - not the supposedly 'pleasing' excerptâ€
