IDEA FIRE COMPANY [usa]
Idea Fire Company was formed in 1988 by Karla Borecky and Scott Foust. Foust's previous releases include XX Committee (Thermidor), Story Of Failure, and Anschluss (both Swill Radio). IFCO's first two releases, Explosion In A Shingle Factory and The Fourth Dimension Is Money ('89 and '93, Swill Radio) were both strongly collaged puzzle records of ever-increasing clarity featuring core members Borecky and Foust, with additional sonic material provided by various accomplices.
Feeling like this approach had been exploited to its fullest, and eager to explore the world of performance, IFCO stripped down to just Borecky and Foust, two analog synths, and the occasional guitar or tape. The result was Anti-Natural ('97, Swill Radio), a heavily edited and compact version of lonely beauty. In 1998, the LP/Art Object, Crusaders was released on the Rund Um Den Watzmann imprint.
In 1995, IFCO began a series of live performances, first as a duo, then increasingly with guest musicians. A very successful radio show with Graham Lambkin (Shadow Ring) in 1999 led to the formation of Tart. Tart was Borecky and Foust's main focus throughout the early '00s, releasing two LPs, Radio Orange and Bring In The Admiral, and performing numerous live shows, documented on the Pineapple Tapes cassette Live Volume 1.
Throughout the Tart days, IFCO still performed occasionally. In 2002 IFCO played as a quartet with Meara O'Reilly and Jessi Swenson. This performance led to further performances as a quartet and recording sessions that culminated in the release of Stranded ('06 Swill Radio). (O'Reilly and Swenson also star in Foust's just completed feature length film, Here's To Love!, along with Matt Krefting.) Due to prior commitments, O'Reilly and Swenson are not available for this European swing. They will be replaced by Frans de Waard, playing music specially composed for these occasions.
