B°Tong is Chris Sigdell, ex-member of Nid (spelled in Icelandic letters). Nid was a German experimental music-collective born out of a chance-meeting between Chris and FEINE TRINKERS BEI PINKELS DAHEIM (i.e. Juergen Eberhard and Oswin Czerwinski). From 1995-2005 Nid messed with experimental sounds and destroyed traditional expectations of music (see: www.nid-musik.com). Since 2005 B°Tong is Chris' journey to the nether regions of experimental electronic sounds. While some of the music is dark and ambient, other stuff is itchy and scratchy modern electronics. B°Tong remains influenced by the original pioneers of Industrial Muzak such as: Throbbing Gristle, Lustmord and SPK. Another source of influence are classics like Karl Heinz Stockhausen, Terry Riley or Pierre Henry. B°Tong uses recorded and found samples from natural sources (water, rocks, wind) to voice snippets from movies and TV and lyrics read and processed by computer. Woven together, these raw fragments create "soundscapes" that give birth to images of darkness and tranquillity, the solitude of an icy polar night, a scuba-diving trip in a bottomless pit. Welcome to the darker side of laptop histrionics... In difference to his releases, live B°Tong plays a multitude of effect-pedals and devices, as well as "instruments" such as: refrigerator cooling-grill, hand-held battery ventilator, vibrator, or damaged radio. o.m.s. - n.m.a. is one of many solo-projects of andy eeckhaut, located in east-flanders, belgium.his first steps on the path of experimental music were taken someday back in 1998, after hearing a captivating track in a local record store. this resulted in four tracks (a1. exordium, a2. das blümchen, a3. polyphonic afterbirth & a4. track 05) under the name "sonus". those tracks were formerly meant to support poems which actually never got written. due to this fact, the aspect of voice was never added. sonus turned mute...
the will to express himself experimentaly, never ceased to exist, and found its way out in other projects, although severly bound. one day (fall/winter 2001), he got in touch with an analogue synthesizer simulation program... did some knob-turning... and the - since long - rejected sense for musical experimenting broke lose... o.m.s. - n.m.a. was born!
he did a short try-out show on new years eve 2001 in front of some friends... with a minimal setup... improvisation... the way it would remain... ranging from harsch noise, power electronics, dark ambient, to experimental soundworks, the live shows are always different... and the setup is never known until a few hours or even minutes before the show, even not to him...
in the meantime, a lot of good reactions came from all over the world, the first contributions on compilations, a split release,...
